IRONBRIDGE
GORGE MUSEUMS.
The
Ironbridge Gorge was the cradle of the Industrial revolution,
driven by two key industries that lined the banks of
the valley: iron-making and china.
Today,
a unique collection of 10 Museums re-tell the story
of these industries and the contribution they made not
just to Britain, but the world. In fact, the Ironbridge
Gorge is designated a World Heritage Site.
The
Museums Trust wanted two videos: a 10-minute video to
be shown to visitors at the Museum of Iron and a longer
30-minute version of the same story to sell on DVD.
Our
first and biggest challenge was the script. We worked
together with the Museum's curators and academics to
digest a fairly complex story of engineering and technological
breakthroughs, driven by larger-than-life characters
like the Darby dynasty.
We wrote the longer script first, then produced a cut-down
version for the shorter visitor video.
Shooting took place over a three-month period as we
filmed many of the traditional processes which are still
in action today: iron casting & rolling, tile making,
forging, slip casting, ceramic painting - and so on.
We also used re-enactors from the Museum's Blists Hill
Victorian Town, to re-create the atomosphere of Ironbridge
in its heyday.
It's
a unique record of a unique place.
